Cafe Jardin – Sherman GardensPosted: August 10, 2010
I realized that I have not yet blogged about this gem you probably have never heard of. Pascal Olhats, one of the best chefs in OC, runs a group of restaurants, and tucked away inside Sherman Gardens, a beautiful garden spot in Newport Beach is Cafe Jardin. It is open for lunch and Sunday brunch. My office team and I went for a really great 2+ hour lunch one day and here are some of the great things we ate:
Salad Lyonnaise is one of my favorites, and hard to find, even in French restaurants. Cafe Jardin makes a perfect version with Poached Egg, Bacon Lardons, Boston Lettuce and Garden Dressing. YUM.
Pan Seared Black Cod with Leeks, Shiitake Mushrooms, and Lobster Essence. If you like black cod, which I do, this is wonderful. The lobster essence is the essence of richness.
The Apple Tart met my criteria: maximum butter ratio, beautifully presented!
The service was great. The wine list is very good, with strength in French wine, as you might expect. While the nice weather is here – go for lunch or brunch, and add an hour to enjoy the flowers too!
