Google buys Zagat – Good for Foodies?

Google bought Zagat, an independent restaurant surveying and rating firm, for an undisclosed amount. My guess: around $100 mil, based on Zagat’s previously unsuccessful attempt to sell at around $200 mil. The big question: will the acquisition be good for Zagat customers? I believe it will be, because Google is very quality oriented, and has the resources to make Zagat bigger and better, to prevent others (Yelp, Open Table, Travel Advisor) from eroding Zagat market share. I feel Zagat has higher reliability and credibility (even though they oddly have highly rated fast food), so the acquisition will hopefully benefit Zagat readers.

What do you think?
