Happy Sake Day

Obviously not your typical Hallmark holiday, I just found out this morning that today is World Sake Day.  This celebrates the traditional start of the Sake brewing season in Japan, which logically, follows the fall rice harvest.

In the US, there are tons of celebrations, but painfully hard to find! Team Ty-ku has a list of nationwide events.

I recommend just going to your local high end sushi bar, the kind that serves cold sake, not just hot, and explore the incredible intricate subtleties of flavor, from dry to sweet, from fruity to flowery, just like in wine.  I admit I’m a novice, but everything I learn about sake increases my enjoyment.  Nothing like a bite of fantastic hamachi sashimi followed by a swallow of Junmai Daiginjo!
