First Cabin – Balboa Bay Club – Newport Beach, CAPosted: May 18, 2012
A lunch at the Balboa Bay Club’s First Cabin restaurant is like belonging to your own Yacht Club for a few hours. They have a beautiful windowed Bay-front room, but even better is the patio outside, which is right on the water, with million dollar yachts in view.
On a recent trip, we enjoyed Duet of Lobster Salad Sliders on Brioche Buns and Sweet Potato Fries and Lobster Bisque. The bisque was rich and deep in flavor, with lots of butter, and the lobster salad was very fresh and bright, with orange zest for a little zing.
For dessert, we had Baked Brioche Bread Pudding ala mode. As a bread pudding snob, I’d say this was really good.
The slant at First Cabin is German, which derives from Austrian-born Chef Josef Lageder. They have wonderful comfort food like Chicken Paprikas and Weiner Schnitzel. The wine list is impressive.
I’m looking forward to a return trip soon.
